Today we decided that we were in need of some beach time so we ventured to Vina del Mar. There is a metro in Valparaiso that will take you there in ten minutes, but it didn't seem to be functioning today so we decided to walk the 6.5 km.
There was a georgous walkway all along the water where we got to see pelicans, sealions (well....lion to be more accurate) and some pretty cute german shepherd puppies. We also stumbled upon what could be the most beautiful university campus in the world. If only I spoke Spansh and needed an engineering or archetecture degree! Our pictures didn't do it justice so you can see the 360 degree view here.
Some other highlights of our day include:
- being the only white (blazingly) people on the beach
- ordering a Cuarto de Libra Con Queso y un Fanta Naranja at MacDonalds without making anyone laugh
- Playing Chilean slot machines in the local Casino...only beacuse we wanted a clean bathroom to use!
- Banana Split flavoured Gelato
- Figuring out the local bus system so we didn't have to walk the 6.5 km home
We both really enjoyed Vina. The 'grittiness' of Valpo is replaced by manicured parks, palm trees and stretches of nice white sand. It was a great day (though we might regret it tomorrow by the looks of our burns).
