We thought it might be helpful for future visitors to breakdown some of the prices we’ve encountered on Margarita Island. This is by no means an exhaustive list. It’s more of a snapshot to give you an idea of how much things in everyday life cost. Remember that this is being written in June, 2006 and that prices do change. If you don’t see the thing you’re looking for feel free to ask in the comments for prices of other things.
Prices on Margarita Island, Venezuela
Restaurants & Food:
During our two months on Margarita we’ve eaten at food ranging from McDonald’s to fine French cuisine. Like everywhere, prices vary.
Fast Food:
Burger Combo – 6,000 to 10,000 Bs ($2.60 to $4.40)
Pizza Place:
A cheese pizza big enough for two people – 9,000 to 10,000 ($3.90 to $4.40)
Soda/Pop – 2,000 ($0.86)
Beer – 1,500 ($0.65)
Nicer Restaurants:
Nice meal – 20,000 to 35,000 ($8.69 to $15.00)
Soda/Pop – 2,000+ ($0.86)
Beer – 1,500+ ($0.65)
Supermarket:
Beer – 540bs ($0.23)
Loaf of Bread – 840 to 3,500 ($0.36 to $1.52)
5 Liters of water – 3,650 ($1.58)
Avacados – 6,200/kg ($2.69/kg)
Big box of Frosted Flakes – 7,250 ($3.15)
Package of Spaghetti – 1,100 to 3,000 ($0.46 to $1.30)
2 Liters of Orange Juice – 4,000 ($1.79)
Delicious Pastries – 1,800 to 3,000 ($0.78 to $1.30)
Transportation & Other:
A quick look at how much it costs to travel the island, fill up your car, and lie on the beach all day (the beach is free but the chairs costs money).
Taxi:
20,000/hour (8.69/hour) For longer trips
Within Porlamar – 5,000 to 7,000 ($2.17 to $3.05)
20-35 minute ride – 25,000 ($11.00)
45 Minute Ride – 30,000 ($13.00)
Beach:
15,000 for a set of lounge chairs and umbrella for the day ($6.50)
Gas:
Per liter – 97bs ($0.04) This is not a typo
Nice two bedroom Apartment with Air conditioning, high speed Internet, Washer & Dryer, etc.
Per month – Approximately $1,000
