Los Ninos Hotel Review - Cusco, Peru
What’s Good:
The Cause, Clean, Friendly Service, Breakfast, Showers, Price
What’s Bad:
Noisier Street, Walk to Plaza Des Armas
Hotel website: http://www.ninoshotel.com/

We were lucky to stay at Los Ninos for three nights of our visit to Peru. We had read about this place before we planned our trip and managed to get our reservations in early. It was well worth it. Los Ninos has become somewhat of a famed destination in Peru. Travelers, backpackers in particular, are starting to treat the hotel as a destination in and of itself.
Los Ninos was started in 1996 by a Dutch couple who wanted to help the street kids in Cusco. All proceeds from the hotel go to programs that the couple has designed for the street children of the city. The hotel has been such as success that they have recently opened a second hotel and other apartments nearby.
The Los Ninos Hotel doesn’t look like much from the outside (we stayed in the original hotel – Ninos 1). A small door that ducks down off the uphill street is opened by staff only after you have pressed the buzzer. Once you step down off the street into the hotel the entire world changes. You go from a dusty, dirty, noisy street to the tranquil and beautiful entrance of the courtyard. The office is just to your right. The staff we dealt with were always incredibly friendly and helpful.
We had two rooms at Los Ninos. We had a room for four guys (three single beds and a double) and a room for two girls (two singles). Each of the rooms had very clean, well done, private bathrooms. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were very well done (sparse decorations, but still nice). There was also an electric heater in the room and ample closet space. Each room also had a small table and matching chairs. The showers were always hot and had great water pressure. Towels were provided for each person with the rooms.
Los Ninos’ breakfasts were fantastic. The basic breakfast, which is included with your room, was fresh bread, jam, tea, and orange juice. For an extra dollar or two you could get a larger breakfast from their menu. We had fresh fruit, crepes, yogurt, and many other wonderful items. Being able to sit in the courtyard and enjoy breakfast was a fantastic treat.
Los Ninos also has a room they will store your luggage for you while you're off overnight on tours. If I recall correctly this was either for free or a very nominal fee
There really were only two semi-negative things about Los Ninos. The street noise outside our window was a little much. This, as it turns out, had a lot to do with the festival of the cross. The other downside was that it was a little bit of a walk to the Plaza des Armas. About 5-8 minutes.
All in all this was by far the best hotel we stayed at in Peru. You will not go wrong staying at Los Ninos.

You mentioned on your main blog that you have had a hard time finding good travel sites for advise, reviews, user experiences, etc. I posted this on your main blog but figured i'd post it here.... look harder.
One very good site for reviews by people at stay at hotels/resorts/attractions/etc. is TripAdvisor. I have never been dissapointed by this site.
Los Ninos Hotel in Cusco, for example, has a bunch of reviews on the site, and a high rating by its users. You canr ead reviews and experiences of other people who stayed there.

Plenty of good sites exist, TripAdvisor being one of the best in terms of the amount of data they have available on places all over the world.

Just noticed in your links to the right that you do know about TripAdvisor... sorry :) Got the impression from your original post that you had trouble finding good resources (you said as much)... TripAdvisor is definitely the best out there.
